After reading through Stages of Technology Integration, I feel I am a mixture of a couple of these stages. I can only compare my experiences on a personal level since I have not started my professional career. I think I am between Stage 2: Adoption and Stage 3: Adaptation. I identify with these two the most because in Stage 2 Adoption I do tend to use websites that make sense to me and then ill just hold on to them, I don't really like using new technology because it scares me :/ lol so I stick to what I know, even with that being said, there are points to this stage that I don't agree with. I don't feel that technology should be left up to another teacher to be taught to student, I mean if I had a classroom, I would definitely want to integrate technology into my everyday teaching, especially because the direction technology and education are heading in. And I feel I Identify with Stage 3 because if I was a teacher I would probably be adding technology to existing lessons. I would love to see myself at stage 4 when I begging teaching, that would be a great asset to have as a new teacher. I also think it would be refreshing to students to have a teacher that uses cool technology in the classroom, and of course it goes back to the whole, it will make learning so much more fun for them.

Reflection 2
Assignment: Research. Choose a finding from the research presented to you in class. What stood out? Were you surprised by anything you saw? Do you think having information such as this available to you will help you reach your students on a greater level? Should we be cautious about research findings or take them at their word?
From the various research that was provided in class last Wednesday, the one study that stood out the most to me was the Horizon Report. As a future teacher I felt that was really valuable information. I didn't even realize that things/times are so different now. I guess as future teachers we better kiss traditional techniques goodbye and start dipping our toes into the wonderful world of technology. According to the report, within the next three years, they are predicting game based learning. I mean what child wouldn't want to learn if they are learning on devices they are using for several hours in a week for anyway. I feel this is a smart way to kind of steer their attention away from games that they probably shouldn't be playing on their xbox or ps3's and they can actually play games or do activities on those devices and learn.
The one major statistic that stood out the most to me was the percentage of children in grades k-2 who had cell phones and smart-phones (jaw-drop!) omg! that to me was crazy and kind of a reality check.. I keep getting blown away by how technological the world is getting. I am just shocked because I didn't even have a cell phone till I started college!! kids these days... SO LUCKY!!
I strongly feel that having information like this will definitely help me reach my students in a more effective manner. I have a great feeling that this class will be opening many exciting new doors for me. It's kind of like the saying.. "If you can't beat them, join 'em" We can use what the kids are most comfortable using as a teaching resource. We all learn better when we are doing something that is fun and interesting, and using these types of tools to engage our students will be totally empowering to them. Using things like personal gaming devices and tablets for learning will, I feel even benefit students with special needs such as ADHD! How awesome would it be for an ADHD child to NOT sit in class and read out of a book but learn on a iPad!
I like this research, I mean so far its really making sense to me. It is a better way for us to reach our students.

Reflection 1
Reflective Post #1: Introduce yourself. Give the reader some background about how you arrived at this point in your career. What is your experience and opinion regarding technology in education?
Hello fellow bloggers! I am so excited because this is my first blog ever, and I'm not gonna lie.. I think I'm pretty damn cool! (sorry in advance Nicole if I'm not suppose to use the 'D' word on here! :/) When I first signed up for this course, I thought it was going to be dry and boring, but honestly, the first class had me so excited! I think this class will definitely give us the resources to become more interesting and 'fun' teachers, lol.. I am really looking forward to the rest of the quarter!
A little 411 about me:
My name is Rehana, I am 25 years old. I am finishing up my elem ed degree at NLU and I have been here for a year now, and LOVE IT! I started out at UIC where I met some of the most amazing people who I will know for the rest of my life! :) Also while their, I learned I do NOT want to be in business, a pharmacist, or a nurse! (yes.. I did try persuing those degrees) going to UIC and trying to major in those degrees made me realize how much I wanted to peruse teaching, something I knew I wanted to do as a child. I have ALWAYS wanted to be a teacher, ever since I can remember. Growing up, I would play 'classroom' with my stuffed animals and dolls, one summer in high school I even volunteered at my elementary school and loved it. Even though for some reason, starting college I didn't persue teaching, I am completely happy where I am at, at this point in my life because I am so sure that this is what I want to do. :)
Technological Experience:
I can honestly say I am not at all technologically inclined., I am way opposite.. I'm actually praying right now that I'm doing this blog thing correctly lol. But, being in class last week, I realized how much fun it would be to use technology in the classroom, I mean talk about getting the kids excited! I didn't realize their were so many resources for teachers to use on via the internet for the classroom. I am very excited to be in this class!
