Reflective Post #1: Introduce yourself. Give the reader some background about how you arrived at this point in your career. What is your experience and opinion regarding technology in education?
Hello fellow bloggers! I am so excited because this is my first blog ever, and I'm not gonna lie.. I think I'm pretty damn cool! (sorry in advance Nicole if I'm not suppose to use the 'D' word on here! :/) When I first signed up for this course, I thought it was going to be dry and boring, but honestly, the first class had me so excited! I think this class will definitely give us the resources to become more interesting and 'fun' teachers, lol.. I am really looking forward to the rest of the quarter!
A little 411 about me:
My name is Rehana, I am 25 years old. I am finishing up my elem ed degree at NLU and I have been here for a year now, and LOVE IT! I started out at UIC where I met some of the most amazing people who I will know for the rest of my life! :) Also while their, I learned I do NOT want to be in business, a pharmacist, or a nurse! (yes.. I did try persuing those degrees) going to UIC and trying to major in those degrees made me realize how much I wanted to peruse teaching, something I knew I wanted to do as a child. I have ALWAYS wanted to be a teacher, ever since I can remember. Growing up, I would play 'classroom' with my stuffed animals and dolls, one summer in high school I even volunteered at my elementary school and loved it. Even though for some reason, starting college I didn't persue teaching, I am completely happy where I am at, at this point in my life because I am so sure that this is what I want to do. :)
Technological Experience:
I can honestly say I am not at all technologically inclined., I am way opposite.. I'm actually praying right now that I'm doing this blog thing correctly lol. But, being in class last week, I realized how much fun it would be to use technology in the classroom, I mean talk about getting the kids excited! I didn't realize their were so many resources for teachers to use on via the internet for the classroom. I am very excited to be in this class!
Rehana I also wen through a few career options before landing in teacher, just as you I LOVE it! One of the biggest pieces of advice I can give you about learning all of this new technology is to try and take it one step at a time. It is very easy to get overwhelmed by everything thats going to happen. And just know that your not the only one having trouble, I am lucky and recently took a ed. tech. class at my old school but when I was first learning it I was so overwhelmed that it kind of turned me off to the class but I was working with my friends and they made it a lot easier and now things are so much easier.
ReplyDeleteHi Rehana :) I think it's so great that you're excited about bringing all the new things we're going to learn into the classroom. I agree that it can be a little overwhelming at times, but it's worth it when you think about how rewarding it'll be to see how the new resources you'll have will enhance your students' experience!
ReplyDeleteNicely stated, Ryan and Madeline. You will be fine Rehana! The goal of the class is to make you aware of what is available and to provide examples of some methods of delivery to your students. I certainly don't expect you to walk out an expert so don't panic....yet :)
